Means Income Source Identified – SRD R370 Decline

If your SASSA status check / SRD status check shows “Means Income Source Identified”, it means the system detected an income signal for the specific month being assessed. This page is a fast “what now” tool — not a lecture.

Important: this reason is usually month-by-month. Always confirm the month shown on the official portal first.

Quick Tool: Pick the best match

Select what happened in the declined month — you’ll see the fastest next step.

I received income in that month

If you got salary, contract pay, or regular deposits that month, the decline can be correct for that month. Later months can still approve once you have no income.

Do this now
  • Keep checking monthly on the official portal.
  • Make sure your banking details are correct (to avoid delays if later months approve).
  • If your record is employer/tax related, also check: IRP5 / IPR5 Registered.

I did NOT receive income (it’s wrong)

This usually means a deposit/record was matched to you for that month — even if it wasn’t actually income. If you qualify, appeal the affected month.

Do this now
  1. Open the official SRD portal and confirm the exact declined month.
  2. Get your bank statement for that month (and a few days before/after month-end).
  3. Identify the deposit/reference that could have triggered the “means income” flag.
  4. Use the Appeals Tool for that specific month.

I got a once-off deposit (help/refund/reversal)

Once-off money can still trigger a “means” flag in the month it landed. If it wasn’t real income, keep proof.

Do this now
  • Keep the statement showing it was a refund/reversal/once-off support (with reference text).
  • If the month should qualify, appeal that month using the official appeals system.
  • If you also see “UIF Registered”, follow: UIF Registered.

What this decline reason means

Means Income Source Identified = the SRD verification checks picked up an income indicator linked to your ID and/or banking profile for the declined month. That month is then treated as not qualifying.

Fast checks before you appeal

When to appeal (and when not to)

  • Appeal makes sense if you had no qualifying income for that declined month and the flag is wrong.
  • Appeal usually won’t help if you genuinely received income in that month (then it’s a correct decline for that month).
  • Appeals are normally submitted per month.

Scam warning

Nobody can “remove a means income flag” for a fee. Don’t share your OTP, banking PIN, card details, or login. Use official portals only.
